See The Space Shuttle In Orbit

This week the shuttle Endeavor lifted off to dock with the International Space Station.

Have you ever seen the space station or shuttle in orbit? At certain times you can see it while standing outside your house. If you live in town you may have to drive out into the country but it can be seen without any binoculars or telescope.

Next Sunday, The 19th, will be a great opportunity. If you live in the Texas Panhandle at 9:37pm you can look North-North-West, 10 degrees above the horizon for it to appear. It will be visible for 3 minutes and be traveling to the North-East. Listed below are other sighting opportunities for the Texas Panhandle.

You can use this link for NASA Satellite Sighting Information for updates on times and locations any where in the US. Simply click on your state then on a town close to where you live. It will give you sighting information for both the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle. Click for more information on Endeavors mission and progress.

It is really cool to watch the shuttle orbit overhead so watch the sky next Sunday night!

Nothing like a good shower

Tonight, Sunday the 12th, step out side for a really good meteor shower. The Perseids Meteor shower should peek between midnight and three in the morning. This year it will be easy to see because the moon will not be in view. Pour a big glass of ice tea, get a comfortable lawn chair, put a few dog treats in your pocket and spend the evening with your best friend looking up at the sky.
